Just Us Girls #57 Wild Card technique challenge!

Hello Just Us Girls challengers! First off, long time no blog! Boy have I missed joining my JUGs friends for challenges this past month. Glad to be back in the saddle so to speak. This week is wild card week meaning that the hostess (that's me, Dana) has free choice on what the challenge will be.....ready???
This week I am challenging everyone to try burnt edged fabric flowers. Now, challenge requirements....try the burnt edge technique and make a fabric flower with that technique. The resulting flower can be used on anything you like....a card, a scrap page, decor, fashion, etc.... Here is a great link to a tutorial by Simply Vintage Girl to help you get started. I'd like to note that Simply Vintage Girl uses silk for her gorgeous flower...but other types of fabric work well too and produce varied effects. Also, despite the fact we are all grown ups here, the mother in me wants to send out a warning of "be careful" ;) This involves flame and fabric so working on a heat proof surface is important, keeping hands away from the flame, maybe some ventilation is a good idea, ya know, be safe!

If burning fabric sends chills down your spine (and not the fun Halloween kind!) then you can show up to the challenge with your best fabric flower offering. The key word here is fabric OK?

Here is some amazing inspiration from the Just Us Girls DT:

Chic of the Week #54

Hi everyone! We had some great acetate entries this week! Some of the techniques used I had never heard of before. The one that really caught my eye, because of the different techniques she used, was Janine B!I loved how she added the glitter and used alcohol inks around the edges. Very pretty! Janine, please contact me for the Chic of the Week badge!

A few of the others I really liked were:

LeAnne: She had a great inspiration piece to work with and I loved her snowflakes on the acetate.

Marianne: She created the cutest snowglobe with the acetate.

Jo: I just loved her witch in the acetate window!

Silvia: She sanded her acetate for a distressed look.

Kerrie: She used the acetate to create a gable box.

Congrats to all of you and please come by tomorrow for our color challenge!

Just Us Girls #54 - Technique Challenge

Hi everyone! Lisa here starting the second year of challenges from Just Us Girls! We so appreciated everyone hopping and playing along with us last week! Congrats to all the winners and thanks to all the sponsors!

We also want to send out a very special belated Happy Birthday to our very own JUGs girl Alicia! She celebrated her birthday last Wednesday during our anniversary celebration. We hear she had a very nice day with her family!

Now, on to the challenge for this week. The technique I've chosen is using acetate on your card. This means making a clear card or using it as an accent. I searched the Resources section of Splitcoast Stampers and they have a bunch of different techniques using acetate. Just type "acetate" in the search box and they'll come up.

Here's what the JUGs crew has come up with using acetate. I must say that a some of the team either accidentally used the wrong technique or used vellum instead of acetate, but their cards were so darn cute we let them slip by instead of not posting this week! (grin!)

Hi all!  First I'd like to say a huge THANK YOU not only for participating this week but also for helping to spread the word about breast cancer awareness.  Such a worthy cause, and education is key!!  I read a lot of hearfelt stories that brought tears to my eyes.  I'm so thankful that my mother's brush with breast cancer and her lengthy treatment and recovery are behind her.  I pray the same result for those of you who are faced with this horrible disease, and that any of you who are in remission continue to live a long, healthy life - cancer free!

Just Us Girls Anniversary!! JUGS 53 - Sketch

Today is a VERY special day at Just Us Girls! If you didn't notice our post title, it's the JUGS one year anniversary! Yes, we started our humble little challenge blog one year ago today. Our group name was conceived when Lauren Meader decided to pursue her new, My Time Made Easy business and disbanded her challenge DT. "Just us girls" ventured off on our own, changed the lineup of challenges a tad bit, and started JUGS. It was an intended pun to use this name because most of the JUGS ladies have been affected by breast cancer in some way. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, so the start of our group and the name had significant meaning in a couple of ways :]

We are proud to boast over 650 followers, many of whom faithfully play along every week. You all make us so proud every time you link your gorgeous work to our challenge blog. We are honored to share your company in this wonderful, paper crafting world ♥

So, in honor of our anniversary, we have a simple, yet FUN sketch:
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we are not asking for you to donate to a specific organization, rather, we would like to provide a few popular links that support breast cancer awareness and research. If you donate, we are grateful, if you don't, feel free to share the links and spread the word!

Avon Foundation for Women - Breast Cancer Crusade
Breast Cancer Awareness
The Breast Cancer Site
BreastCancer.org
CDC - Breast Cancer Awareness
National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc
Susan G. Komen for the Cure
